Gamification for Jira by Bitwerf – Documentation

Points, badges, kudos and leaderboards for Jira Cloud. People earn points for the work they already do in Jira. Nobody has to fill in anything extra.

Coming to the Atlassian Marketplace. Want it on your Jira site first? Email hello@bizzkitt.ai and we let you know the day it is live.

How people earn points

ActivityDefault pointsWho gets them
Create an issue5The person who creates it
Resolve an issue (moved to a status in the Done category)10The assignee, or the person who moved it when nobody is assigned
Write a comment2The author (edits don't count)
Log work2The person who logs it
Receive kudos10The colleague who gets the kudos

An issue earns resolve points once per year, even if it is reopened and closed again. By default each activity type earns points up to 25 times per person per day (the daily limit), so nobody can farm points. Activity from before the app was installed doesn't count. Days, weeks (Monday to Sunday), months and years use UTC.

Points usually show up within a minute when someone opens the app, and at the latest within an hour.

Bonus rules with JQL

Give extra points when an issue matches a JQL filter, for example issuetype = Bug or priority in (High, Highest). A rule applies when the issue is created or when it is resolved. The app ships with one rule: Bugs, +5 when a bug is resolved. Admins can add up to 10 rules and check the JQL before saving.

Admins can edit these, remove them or add up to 40 badges. A badge can count points, created or resolved issues, comments, work logs, kudos received, kudos given or matches of a bonus rule. Everyone sees their progress towards each badge.

Levels follow the total points: level 2 starts at 50 points, level 3 at 150, level 4 at 300, level 5 at 500, and so on (level n starts at 25 × n × (n − 1) points).

Kudos

On the Kudos tab, pick a colleague, write a short thank-you (up to 280 characters) and click Give kudos. The colleague gets points and the kudos appears on the wall of recent kudos. Each person can give 3 kudos per day by default; admins can change this or turn kudos off.

Leaderboards and teams

The leaderboard ranks people for today, this week, this month, this year or all time. When an admin picks Jira groups as teams, the leaderboard gets a team ranking and a filter per team.

Data and privacy

The app keeps its data in its Forge storage on Atlassian's infrastructure: the Atlassian account IDs of people who take part, their points, counts per activity, badges, their 20 most recent activities (issue keys and kudos or award notes), a daily cached account type and group list, kudos messages (90 days) and your settings. It doesn't store names, email addresses or issue content; names are shown by asking Jira when you open the app. Every week the app reports the stored account IDs to Atlassian's personal data reporting and erases the data of closed accounts. Bitwerf runs no servers for this app and cannot see your data. See the privacy policy.
